The Convergence Agenda

The Convergence Agenda is an multi sector initiative, coordinated by the Ministry for Human Rights. Its objective is to prevent children and adolescents’ human rights violation during major events.

The Agenda involves the civil society, international bodies, the Federal Government, State and City Governments. It also counts on the participation of private companies. It implies, in each host city, the creation of Child Protection Local Committees to coordinate and implement action plans.

Actions planned by Child Protection Local Committees

Mobilization of local networks for the protection of children and adolescents, in the FIFA World Cup’s host cities.
Development of the Local Committee’s Action Plan.
Map of the situation of children and establishment of local protection network.
Definition of protocols and flows, aligning and ensuring adequate services to local demands.

 
Childhood Brasil’s role in the Convergence Agenda

Innovative youth led projects

In March 2013, Childhood Brasil announced the call for proposals: “Protection of children and adolescents during the 2014 FIFA World Cup”, in partnership with the OAK Foundation.

The objective of this call for proposals was to find innovative projects located in the metropolitan area of the 12 host-cities.

The projects were expected to involve the society through mobilization actions, led by young people and focused on the protection of children and adolescent against sexual exploitation.

ANA nas Escolas [ANA – National Alliance of Adolescents – at school]

To reduce violence against children, adolescents, and young people, strengthening the engagement of adolescents against sexual violence in the communities affected by the FIFA World Cup, promoting education for self-protection against sexual violence.

Soldado Anônimo – Voz para as cabeças [Anonymous Soldier – Voice for the heads]

To spread information regarding the Protection of Children and Adolescents, strengthening community’s institutions and popularizing all communications on the subject in innovative formats and medias.

Na Linha do Gol [On the Goal line]

To engage the city of Salvador’s society and visitors in programs to prevent and fight sexual violence against children and adolescents, using communication and qualified information about actors and flows of the Local System to Safeguard the Rights.

Conexão Copa [FIFA World Cup Connection]

To ensure the presence of adolescents and young people in the mobilization of other adolescents and young people in Curitiba in the fight against rights violation during the 2014 World Cup, mainly sexual exploitation of children and adolescents.

PIAR em Ninho Virtual [Network for Protection – chirp in a virtual nest]

To strengthen young people’s participation to fight sexual violence in major events such as the 2014 FIFA World Cup. To encourage the use of social networks as a tool for leadership and attention to youth matters.

To strengthen local network to fight commercial sexual exploitation of children and adolescents in the city of Belo Horizonte during the Mega Sports Events.

To protect adolescents and young people of the city of Natal, in the context of human rights violation, considering the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
